• QMAIL -- qmail:
  qmail is an Internet Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) for UNIX-like operating systems. It's a drop-in replacement for the Sendmail system provided with UNIX operating systems. qmail uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to exchange messages with MTA's on other systems.

  EZMLM -- ezmlm:

  ezmlm is a modern mailing list manager. Its purpose is to efficiently send a message to a large number of recipients with minimal delay. It allows automated additions and subtractions from the subscriber database. In addition, it may keep an archive of messages. It can also impose restrictions on what may be sent or retrieved and by whom. Some mailing list managers keep a database of subscriber information and tailor the message specifically for each subscriber. ezmlm sends the same message to all subscriber. This is much more efficient. The benefits to the user are that on average posts to ezmlm lists reach subscribers much faster than they would with other mailing list manager.

  DJBDNS -- djbdns:

  djbdns is a DNS server which replaces BIND (aka named). It is secure, significantly easier to manage, reliable, small, and fast. djbdns is the first real competition for Bind. It is used by many large sites including ISPs and well-known corporations, and garnered increasing interest around the time a number of serious security flaws were exposed in Bind. Unlike Bind, djbdns comes with a financial security guarantee from the author! The guarantee is made possible by the fact that djbdns runs in a chroot jail with a non-root userid and is designed for security from the ground up.

  UWIMAP -- UW-IMAP:

  IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a method of accessing electronic messages kept on a (possibly shared) mail server. UW-IMAP is a supporting software developed by the University of Washington.

  WUFTPD -- WU-FTPD:

  Wuarchive-ftpd, more affectionately known as WU-FTPD, is a replacement ftp daemon for Unix systems developed at Washington University (*.wustl.edu) by Chris Myers and later by Bryan D. O'Connor (who are no longer working on it or supporting it!). WU-FTPD is the most popular ftp daemon on the Internet, used on many anonymous ftp sites all around the world.

  KSH93 -- KSH93:

  The KornShell language was designed and developed by David G. Korn at AT&T Bell Laboratories. It is an interactive command language that provides access to the UNIX system and to many other systems, on the many different computers and workstations on which it is implemented. The KornShell language is also a complete, powerful, high-level programming language for writing applications, often more easily and quickly than with other high-level languages. This makes it especially suitable for prototyping. There are two other widely used shells, the Bourne shell developed by Steven Bourne at AT&T Bell Laboratories, and the C shell developed by Bill Joy at the University of California. ksh has the best features of both, plus many new features of its own. Thus ksh can do much to enhance your productivity and the quality of your work, both in interacting with the system, and in programming. ksh programs are easier to write, and are more concise and readable than programs written in a lower level language such as C.
